The Office of Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka to Tbilisi, Georgia officially launched during a colourful ceremony held in Tbilisi on 20th June 2022 with the participation of Ambassador of Sri Lanka accredited to Georgia M. Rizvi Hassen, members of parliament of Georgia, Officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, representatives from Diplomatic Corps, representatives of trade chambers, travel and business community and Sri Lankans living and studying in Georgia.

During the event Ambassador officially handed over the Commission of Appointment to Honorary Consul of Tbilisi appointed Ms. Nino Makhviladze.

Speaking at the occasion Ambassador said that during the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Sri Lanka, the bilateral ties between the two friendly countries are growing stronger day by day. Ambassador declared that Sri Lanka desires to promote more colloborations between Sri Lanka and Georgia in the fields of economy, culture, and education. Ambassador also emphasized on diversifying the export products and maximum utilization of two countries potentials. He also indicated that Honorary Consulate office will work towards to connect business community of Georgia with Sri Lankan business community.

Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ambassador Alexander Nalbandov, Director General of Asia & Africa also speaking at the event indicated that the strong bonds between Georgia and Sri Lanka should benefit to strength people to people contacts between the two countries and declared the Government of Georgia’s readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka anytime.

Ms. Nino Makhviladze during her remarks assured her commitment to promote Sri Lanka in Georgia to attract new trade opportunities and investment to Sri Lanka.  Ms. Makhviladze has also indicated that she will be readily available to assist the Sri Lankan students studying in Georgia.

On the sidelines of the launching of the office of Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka to Tbilisi, Ambassador also paid a courtesy call on the Chair of Georgia - Sri Lanka Parliamentary Group in the Georgian Parliament Mr. Levan Karumidze. Ambassador exchanged views on the recent developments in the region and enhancing bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and Georgia. They also discussed the future exchanges between the two countries’ parliaments. Ambassador also met the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to discuss matters mutually interest. Ms. Nino Makhviladze, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Georgia also joined with the Ambassador for the meetings.
