Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations with Turkey in 1948, perhaps Turkey was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka then Ceylon and established resident Mission in Ankara in 2012. As the two countries enjoy longstanding historical relations, Turkey is important for Sri Lanka’s bilateral relations. Turkey’s strategic geographical location gives wide range of opportunities in the political, economic, cultural and science and technology sectors. Turkey’s political hierarchy treat Sri Lanka as a friendly country and has supported Sri Lanka in multilateral and bilateral international forums. Further, Embassy of Sri Lanka in Turkey has accredited to Georgia and Ukraine.
