A Sri Lankan citizen by descent or by registration can apply for a Sri Lankan Passport. Ordinary passports are valid for 10 years from the date of issuance unless otherwise endorsed. A new passport should be obtained on the expiry of 10 years from the date of issue, or if there are no pages for visa endorsements.
Each individual aged between 16-60 years applying for Sri Lanka Passport through Sri Lankan Diplomatic Overseas, on or after 01 January 2018, will mandatorily be required to provide biometric data (fingerprint and digital face image) to the Department of Immigration and Emigration upon your first entry to Sri Lanka. The departure from Sri Lanka will only be allowed upon completion of this requirement. (For more details refer www.immigration.gov.lk )
Submission of forged certificates or any other documents and making false declaration relating to the citizenship status is an offence. Such cases will be reported to relevant authorities. Fees will not be refunded at any circumstances. Incomplete applications will be returned and consular fees will not be refunded.
Originals required to be submitted with 01 set of photocopies from each) along with the duly completed (Form ‘K’- 35 A) application (see .. for applications). Passport Application Form has now been revised to include a Client Undertaking Section (CUS). This section has to be signed by the applicant and hand over to consular officer. No application will be accepted without applicant’s signature in CUS.)
For applicants not holding a valid visa will be issued a Non Machine Readable Passport (NMRP), which will be valid only to return to Sri Lanka. Every applicant, including children, requesting a NMRP should be present for an interview with all relevant documents at the Consular Division of the Embassy
If the passports and documents are to be returned by post, you should provide return address, contact number (including country code), and relevant postal fee to the date of delivery and the weight of the documents (Applicants can obtain the information from the Consular section of the Embassy). Otherwise postage will be retained until the applicant collects it personally.
Note: The Embassy will not take any responsibility for documents lost/damaged during the post.
