Sri Lanka -Georgia Trade Relations

Sri Lanka-Georgia bilateral economic relations

The bilateral economic relations between Georgia and Sri Lanka remain minimal in scale but shows potential for expansion, particularly in trade diversification.

In 2024, Georgia ranked the 91st export destination for Sri Lanka, accounting for approximately 0.04% of Sri Lanka’s total exports. Sri Lanka’s export basket to Georgia is highly concentrated, with tea emerging as the dominant product, representing about 69% of total export value, while activated carbon, pneumatic rubber and apparel etc. remain other major export items.

On the import side, Georgia was the 129th import partner of Sri Lanka, contributing only 0.0004% to Sri Lanka’s total imports in 2024. Imports from Georgia are led by essential oils and resinoids, which account for 44% of the total import value.

Despite the current low trade volume (4.86 USD Mn in 2024), there is notable potential to expand bilateral trade by diversifying Sri Lanka’s exports to Georgia. Identified products with promising market opportunities include apparel items such as knitted gloves, cotton trousers, and baby garments; industrial goods like solid tyres and rubber gloves; agricultural products such as pepper and desiccated coconut; and a range of consumer goods including food preparations, non-alcoholic beverages and ceramic sanitary ware etc.
