Mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Requirement for Travel to Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara wishes to inform all prospective travellers to Sri Lanka that, in accordance with the applicable immigration requirements of the Government of Sri Lanka, travellers are required to obtain a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to commencing their journey to Sri Lanka, unless they already possess a valid visa or other travel authorization, or fall within a category exempted from the ETA requirement under the applicable laws and regulations of Sri Lanka.

Travellers Exempt from Obtaining an ETA

Travellers are not required to obtain an ETA if they are already in possession of, or fall within, any of the following categories:

  • A valid Sri Lankan visa;
  • A valid Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA);
  • A valid Sri Lankan Dual Citizenship Certificate;
  • Persons registered under Sections 5(1) or 5(2) of the Citizenship Act of Sri Lanka, as applicable, including eligible persons below 22 years of age;
  • A valid Entry Visa;
  • A valid Landing Endorsement issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka; or
  • Any other valid travel authorization or exemption recognized under the Immigrants and Emigrants Act, No. 20 of 1948, as amended, including persons travelling to Sri Lanka for official purposes who are exempt from the ETA requirement.

Travellers Required to Obtain an ETA

All prospective travellers who are subject to the ETA requirement are advised to obtain the necessary authorization prior to commencing their journey to Sri Lanka.

Travellers are strongly advised to verify the visa and ETA requirements applicable to their individual circumstances well in advance of their intended date of travel and to ensure that all required travel authorizations have been obtained prior to departure.

Compliance with these requirements will facilitate smooth arrival and immigration clearance in Sri Lanka and help avoid delays or inconvenience arising from non-compliance with Sri Lankan immigration requirements.
