Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Ankara, M.R. Hassen visited to Mugla province of Turkey to explore areas/sectors that the Mission can establish relations and enhance trade, investment and tourism links.
During the visit the Ambassador met the Governor, Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Mugla, Rector of Mugla Sitki Kocman University and President and the members of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mugla Province, prominent business personalities.
During the meetings with the Governor, Mr. Orhan Tavli and Mayor, Dr. Osman Gurun of Mugla metropolitan region explored possibility of linking with Sri Lankan province for ‘sister city’ inter-twining programme. They also shown keen interest on establish contacts to enhance tourism and trade cooperation particularly in fisheries, agriculture and mining sectors. They have shown interest to link with Sri Lanka for sharing information on eco-tourism promotion and sustainable tourism related projects.
Visit to Mugla Chamber of Commerce and Industry was focused on establish links with counterpart trade chambers in Sri Lanka and arranging a virtual meeting session among them for which the President of the Mugla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mustafa Ercan and the members agreed. Mugla is a region highly depended on tourism especially eco-tourism, agriculture, mining of marble stones, fisheries and aquatic resources industries. Ambassador briefed the investment environment of Sri Lanka and the incentives could be offered to foreign investors and assured the Mission’s assistance if a concrete proposal comes.
Ambassador also met with the Rector of Mugla Sitki Kocman University, Prof. Dr. Huseyin Cicek. Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University is the only State University in the Mugla province with 44,607 students, 1608 teaching staff and 827 administrative staff. Ambassador and the Rector discussed the cooperation between Mugla Sitki Kocman University and universities in Sri Lanka in terms of student and academic staff exchange programmes and joint research projects.
