During a virtual zoom session which was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara on 6th January 2022, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, Rector of the Istanbul University and Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo shared readiness to exchange cooperation between the two oldest universities in the respective countries.
Speaking at the occasion, Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo provided a detailed briefing on the history of the University of Colombo, faculties and areas that the University of Colombo is aiming to collaborate with the Istanbul University. 
Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, Rector shared information about the Istanbul University’s academic programmes and expressed the university’s willingness to establish contact with the University of Colombo , student and academic exchanges, organizing joint symposiums and engage in joint research work.
Ambassador, M.Rizvi Hassen opening the virtual session highlighted the importance of linking the two oldest universities in Sri Lanka and Turkey. The Ambassador also noted that the initiative will prosper higher education relations between the two nations and create opportunities to more joint researches, symposiums, staff and student exchanges.

Dr. Ayşe Zişan Furat – Head of International Academic Relations Unit of İstanbul University, Dr. Instructor Member Özgür Oral - Bilateral Multilateral Relations Coordinator of İstanbul University, Dr. Sashika Manoratne, Director, International Office of Colombo University, Ms. Tharanga Dassanayake, Senior Assistant Registrar, International Office of Colombo University, Ms. Kalhari Perera, Coordinator, International Office of Colombo University also joined the virtual meeting.
