The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Türkiye, Niluka Kadurugamuwa, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Türkiye–Sri Lanka Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Adem Yeşildal, M.P., at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) today (06).

President Yeşildal warmly welcomed the Ambassador and the delegation, and conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure. Three Parliamentarians who are Members of the Friendship Group, including those from the provinces of Nevşehir, Van and Giresun, were also present at the meeting. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Minister of the Embassy, Nilusha Dilmini.

During the discussion, Ambassador Kadurugamuwa recalled the longstanding friendship and warm relations between the two nations. He apprised the Turkish side of the recent establishment of the Sri Lanka–Türkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Parliament of Sri Lanka and highlighted the importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy to further strengthen people-to-people linkages. The Ambassador also conveyed to President Yeşildal greetings from his Sri Lankan counterpart.

Agreeing with the importance of advancing parliamentary diplomacy, MP Yeşildal conveyed that the Turkish side is keen to work closely with Sri Lanka to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. He emphasized that the two countries should maintain steady coordination among their Ministries of Foreign Affairs, respective Embassies, and Parliamentary Friendship Groups in moving forward.

The Ambassador, while reaffirming that the bond of friendship between the peoples of the two nations remains at the heart of bilateral relations, requested the support of the Friendship Group in promoting Turkish investments and tourists to Sri Lanka and in finding new markets in Türkiye for Sri Lankan exports. Both sides agreed that while economic partnerships are significant, strong people-to-people connections form the core of Sri Lanka–Türkiye relations.

The meeting was held in a very cordial and constructive atmosphere, conforming to the shared commitment of both countries to advance cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and social spheres.
