The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Türkiye, Niluka Kadurugamuwa, met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Beris Ekenci, today (27) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara, marking yet another important step forward in strengthening the longstanding and friendly diplomatic relationship between the two nations.

Both sides reaffirmed the warmth and depth of Sri Lanka–Türkiye relations, which have continued for over 77 years. Ambassador Kadurugamuwa conveyed Sri Lanka’s deep appreciation for the continued support, professionalism, and constructive engagement of the Turkish Government, as well as the close cooperation maintained.

A key focus of the discussion was the shared commitment to further enhance bilateral economic ties. Recalling the outcomes of the Sri Lanka–Türkiye Joint Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation (JCETC) held in July 2025 in Colombo, both sides reiterated their determination to work collaboratively toward achieving the mutually agreed economic targets and expanding trade, investment, and sectoral cooperation.

The meeting also covered a wide range of collaborative avenues, including strengthening diplomatic, parliamentary, and institutional ties, including planned parliamentary exchanges, advancing cooperation in science, technology, research, education, and tourism, following-up on recent proposals and JCETC outcomes, enhancing people-to-people contact, labour cooperation, and facilitating mobility between the two countries.

The discussion concluded with both sides expressing confidence in the continued expansion of Sri Lanka–Türkiye relations across political, economic, scientific, cultural, and social spheres, and reaffirming their commitment to further building on the strong and mutually beneficial partnership.

First Secretary (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Dilanga Hettiarachchi and Head of the South Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Engin Türesin, also attended the meeting.
