Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Türkiye calls on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye

Ambassador Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on 21 March 2023.

The Minister appreciated the role of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in leading the initiative among diplomats to make a donation to the victims of the earthquake as well as efforts made by the government and the people of Sri Lanka to support Türkiye in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also recalled his close interaction with Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry in New Delhi recently.

Ambassador Dissanayake briefed the Minister on the significance of the year 2023, with Türkiye celebrating the 100th anniversary of founding the Republic, Sri Lankan celebrating its 75th anniversary of independence and 75 years of diplomatic relations as well as some of the commemorative activities that have been postponed to the latter half of the year due to the earthquake.

Importance of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which has been postponed, and the processes to complete pending bilateral agreements were also discussed. The Ambassador also briefed the Minister of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Fund Facility (EFF) that was approved by the IMF Executive Board, just a day earlier.
