Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Türkiye Niluka Kadurugamuwa met with Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz, President of the Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay) on 15th December 2025, to discuss possible humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka following the Ditwah disaster. He was accompanied by Minister Nilusha Dilmini and First Secretary ( Commercial) Dilanga Hettiarachchi.
The Ambassador briefed her on the current situation in Sri Lanka; the scale of the devastation, and the urgent need for international support for recovery and rebuilding.
Prof. Dr. Yılmaz conveyed her condolences and reaffirmed the Turkish Red Crescent’s solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka, noting their ongoing coordination with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.
Both sides recalled the Turkish Red Crescent’s long-standing support to Sri Lanka, including assistance during past floods and the 2004 tsunami, which led to the establishment of the Turkish Tsunami Village in Weligama.
Sri Lanka deeply appreciates Türkiye’s continued humanitarian partnership and solidarity in times of need.
