Ambassador M. Rizvi Hassen on the invitation of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakas, the Rector of Afyon Kocatepe University and Prof. Dr. Isa Sagbas, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism on 31st March 2022 conducted a lecture themed, “Glimpse of Sri Lanka Tourism”. The Ambassador made a detailed presentation on Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, its contribution to Sri Lanka’s economy and popular touristic sites for the visitors to the students of tourism and gastronomy faculties. Ambassador expressed his remarks “Sri Lanka offers a lot; sea and sand, Ecotourism, Ayurveda and Spa treatments, huge wildlife reserves, adventurous sports, Safari, UNESCO heritages and amazing history”. Ambassador welcomed all the students to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka.

The students and the academic staff appreciated the Embassy’s effort on making them aware of Sri Lanka tourism and indicated that Sri Lanka has huge potential to attract young Turkish travelers. Some students also indicated their willingness to visit Sri Lanka for internship as well. The session continued with the Q &A session and the students enjoyed pure Ceylon Tea, kokis and Sri Lankan snacks.

Ambassador during his meeting with Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakas, the Rector of Afyon Kocatepe University and the academic staff, exchanged views on establish contacts with Sri Lankan universities for academic, students exchanges and joint researches.

The Rector also signed the renewal Memorandum of Understanding “Bilateral Inter-Institutional Agreement” that Afyon Kocatepe University and the Department of Economics of the University of Colombo for the Erasmus+ Programme which ensures learning mobility for Higher Education students and staff. The Rector assured that the University will continue to engage with the Mission in the future to enlighten the students about the bilateral relations between Turkey and Sri Lanka.

Afyon Kocatepe University, which was established on July 3, 1992, started its education activities on November 10, 1992. The School of Tourism and Hotel Management was established in the 2005-2006 academic year.As of today, Afyon Kocatepe University continues education with 13 faculties, 5 institutes, 4 colleges, 1 state conservatory and 14 vocational schools.
