Sri Lanka participates in the World Cultures Festival 2023 in Ankara, Türkiye

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara participated in the World Cultures Festival 2023 programme organized by the Ebrişem Group and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Türkiye, held on 22 and 23 September 2023 at Cermodern premises.

This Festival consists country specific stalls that show cases culture, various types of on-stage performances, country specific videos. This year, the festival was joined also by the Türkiye’s local public organizations related to culture, foreign diplomatic missions, and international cultural centers, relevant department representatives of universities, artists, academics and media members.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka set up its stall showcasing its unique cultural identity through art, handicrafts, batik, traditional costumes,  photographs of nature, culture and Ceylon Tea. Visitors to the stall were mesmerized by the gracefulness of the Sri Lankan traditional dresses and other cultural elements.

 

On stage Sri Lanka demonstrated traditional Sri Lankan bridal attire and other traditional costumes made with handloom fabrics and batik, which received much accolade from the audience on the first day of the Festival.

 

Sri Lanka stall attracted many Turkish and other foreign visitors to try out Sri Lankan traditional wear.

 

The Embassy also made a brief presentation on Ceylon tea highlighting unique features and diversity of Ceylon Tea with depictions of tea cultivation and processing of Ceylon Tea as well as its history of over 155 years. Ceylon tea was served at the Sri Lanka stall at the event as well.

 

This event served as a platform for the Embassy’s efforts to promote cultural diplomacy among Turkish nationals and other expats living in and around Türkiye, in addition to promoting Sri Lanka for tourism, Sri Lankan products including Ceylon Tea.

There were nearly 700 visitors, in addition to over 300 participants belonging to participating entities including the 55 Embassies that took part.
